Who are Veterinary Technicians?

Licensed Veterinary Technicians are dedicated to preventing and relieving the suffering of animals. They have graduated from accredited programs in Veterinary Technology and possess the knowledge and skills necessary to become effective members of a veterinary health care team.

To become licensed as a veterinary technician in Tennessee, the graduate technician must successfully complete national board and state jurisprudence examinations. Each successive year, the veterinary technician must receive a minimum twelve (12) hours of continuing education to maintain his or her license.

Veterinary Technicians have the opportunity to be involved in their profession by becoming active in their state and national organizations. In addition to the TVTA, veterinary technicians have a national organization, the National Association of Veterinary Technicians in America (NAVTA).
